A Research Report On Green Frog Nursery - 1514 Words

Introduction Green Frog Nursery is a local sanctuary dedicated to growing and selling native plants. This not-for-profit organisation operates mainly with volunteers and few full-time volunteers; this poses few problems as the majority of volunteers are elderly. Due to Australia’s increasingly ageing population, organisations are requiring changes in management styles to accommodate changes in demographics. Problems stemming from this change are evident in the organisation, Green Frog Nursery. Potential issues identified in this organisation lack of succession planning and engagement with future volunteers to carry forward the sanctuary. Concerns surrounding the need for succession planning in the organisation, Green Frog Nursery, are directly derived from external factors. Following the Second World War, Australia experienced a substantial population increase, the era of the baby boomers (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2016). Following this era, Australian citizens became increasingly educated, particularly in areas of female contraception. This led to an initial spike in birth rates followed by a sharp decline in birth rates (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2016). Therefore, Australia’s demographics quickly changed, causing many unintended consequences for the labour force. According to the ABS â€Å"The number of Australians aged 65 and over is expected to increase rapidly, from around 2.5 million in 2002 to 6.2 million in 2042. That is, from around 13 percent of the population to around 25 percent. For Australians aged 85 and over, the growth is even more rapid, from around 300,000 in 2002 to 1.1 milli on in 2042.† (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2001).
