International privacy rights a primer Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
International privacy rights a primer - Essay Example As a worker in the international work place it is increasingly important to ensure that violation of the customer or consumer information does not take place either inadvertently and most certainly not deliberately. Since privacy laws in different countries are varied, there is a need to be sensitive to each country's privacy regulations so that confidentiality of the customer's information is protected. Citizens of developed states as the United States of America and countries of the European Union are particularly sensitive to privacy. In any case, irrespective of the applicability of legal provisions, it is the duty of every employee of the establishment to ensure privacy of the information of the customer gained during professional interaction and ensure that it is in no way compromised. This is as much a moral and ethical issue as a legal one and is thus explicit company policy. Privacy is a cultural context and rights to privacy is defined in modern terms as valid claims made against unauthorized access where a subject has the right to authorize or deny access. This right is based on autonomous choice and is required to be given as a form of informed consent. An individual has the right to control information about his person and behavior. The necessity of Government Article Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
The necessity of Government - Article Example This paper helps to provide an insight regarding renowned mine disasters that took place in the United states of America and how the presence of the government has been necessary in order to counter these disasters and keep the people together in a calm and dignified manner so that they are able to cope up with the effects of these mine disasters. The Centralia Mine disaster took place on the 25th of March in the year 1947, in the Centralia coal mine in Illinois. According to reports, the disaster killed around eleven people and was caused because the coal dust was ignited by a shot blown out of proportion, causing havoc and upheaval. During the time that the shot took place, around 65 workers within the mine itself were injured severely and died. (Drogin, Bob, and Nicole Santa Cruz) The Sago mine disaster on the other hand took place in the year 2000 in Sago, West Virginia and has been recorded as one of the worst mine disasters that the United States of America has been hit by or h as faced. According to this blast, around thirteen people had been trapped alive within the mine out of which twelve of them had been able to survive and make it out alive. The blast received a great amount of media coverage and press coverage by various news channels and newspapers. (Feds Blame Mine Operator for Fatal Collapse) In Utah, the Crandall Canyon Mine has been known for a long time for its supply of bituminous coal and in the year 2007, this mine suffered a collapse because of which six miners had been trapped within its confines. Even the rescue workers who were trying to uncover and find the trapped miners were found dead. The miners were never found and thus had been declared dead by the government within a matter of a month. (Roston, Aram) All these incidents taking place mean that there needs to be a certain existence of law and order with respect to taking proper care and caution of the resources that exist within the environment around society, and such action need s to be carried out by the government. Different mine disasters taking place during different points in history simply calls for the government not being responsible enough to take care of and call for action regarding doing something or taking certain precautionary measures for both the miners and rescue workers as well as the people living in nearby towns and villages. The main similarities between all the mine disasters that have been talked about above are the number of people that were killed as well as the fact that nothing was done in order to make the situation better for the people. The government is a very necessary element required within society especially during such times of need when the resources of the country are being utilized in a manner not befitting society. In this case, the mines are a part of the country and need to be handled with care on part of the government. The biggest question is why proper care was not taken in the later years after having experience d deadly mine disasters in the 90s already. It is important for a country to have a government that is able to carry out action in a manner befitting the people. The g

Some healthcare institutions are faith based and will not allow for some procedures. Others provide small procedures and vaccinations. Some healthcare facilities are for profit and others are non-profit. While other health care providers only take certain types of insurances, either government funded or privately funded insurances. The Mayo Clinic is large not for profit operating healthcare provider and healthcare research entity. They provide a vast array of services in the United States from diabetes to cancer treatment and research. The Mayo Clinic has a worldwide reputation and standard that continues to receive accolade and awards. The Mayo clinic has received the Joint Commissionââ¬â¢s Gold Seal of Approval. This award is given to organizations that demonstrate the highest dedication to improving and providing patients with best quality of care. The Mayo Clinic takes pride in being able to provide the highest level of care and to also maintain it. The Mayo Clinic has established a department to manage any infraction that may hinder its goal of achieving this standard it has set forth (Mayo Clinic For Patients, 2013). The Mayo clinic has to maintain a standard that is consistent with the reputation that they have established for themselves through risk and quality management. The Mayo Clinic has a compliance and integrity program established to reinforce safety. This program is put into place to monitor the overall business practices and to ensure they are being conducted with integrity. The program puts a ll policies and procedures under one chain of command so that they can be monitored and used as a means of communication for employees. The compliance office oversees the directing and receiving of reports, questions, and concerns about the care provided. The Compliance Office works with all department heads and stakeholders to ensure regulations and requirements are met (Integrity and Compliance Program, 2011). The integrity and compliance program applies to all individuals who work in any capacity at the mayo clinic from main stakeholder to students and volunteers. Workers are expected to report any violations that are suspected or otherwise known (Integrity and Compliance Program, 2011). The compliance program offers an open door policy and protects its employees from retaliation. The purpose for this office is to identify violations that are against company policy and the company and its employees to be civilly liable, and criminally liable. Each Mayo facility has a compliance officer on staff to ensure its compliance an d integrity program is being fulfilled. Compliance officers are responsible for investigating suspected violations. Each employee is required to take a compliance-training course to ensure that they know what is expected of them when they witness, suspect, or commit a violation. Another organizationââ¬â¢s risk and quality management that finds themselves in a unique situation between providing the best resources possible to the community and regulation is the Southwest Autism Research Resource Center. The Southwest Autism Research Resource Center, also known as SARRC, is a non-profit, community-based organization that conducts research and distributes information, as well as supports individuals with autism and their families. In 2009, SARRC conducted 250 training and orientations, as well as offered information and services to students and staff in 90 Arizona schools. All of the services they offer are of highest quality and evidence based (Sarrc, n.d.). Autism touches on a broad spectrum of conditions and behaviors. In order to provide support for this spectrum, SARRC performs and receives research from many doctors as well as developmental psychologists. Performance is monitored by how the varying levels of success the therapies have on developmental delays such as feeding, speech, and social skills. Autism touches on a broad spectrum of conditions and behaviors. In order to provide support for this spectrum, SARRC performs and receives research from many doctors as well as de velopmental psychologists. Performance ismonitored by how the varying levels of success those therapies have on developmental delays such as feeding, speech, and social skills. For SARRC, the main regulatory body that effects accreditation on research and treatment is the Arizona Board of Psychologist Examiners. By following the guidelines set by the Arizona Board of Psychologist examiners, SARRC will be in compliance and be able to perform at expectations above the high standards set by the board. They also have to make sure that they are following regulations set forth by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Some of these regulations include the use of electronic records, protection of human subjects, informed consent, and specific safeguards for children. By continuing partnerships with doctors and researchers and following the guidelines set by the regulatory board, SARRC can focus on becoming the center of choice for those seeking assistance Autism spectrum disorders. This will help improve overall organizational performance. The most important part of an organization is to make sure everyone at all levels is working toward a unified goal. Some levels of the organization may have other compartmentalized goals, but overall the message should be clear. Leadership should set the expectations of all incoming employees, but all employees should have a way of giving feedback to leadership on how they feel the organization is progressing to its goal. Staff needs to know that without compliance and accreditation guidelines the organization cannot survive, much less thrive on the assistance it provides to the community. The goal is to have a majority of the staff believe in the direction of the organization and for the organization to listen to its employees. Compliance and regulation set the tone for risk and quality management systems in an organization. Certain aspects may help or hinder performance depending on the particular regulations set by the state. With the guidelines in place, quality management can gauge whether exceeding these standards would help the organization. Besides the level of service provided in quality management, risk management dictate that these actions are responsible from a fiduciary standpoint. Nonprofit organizations arenââ¬â¢t in it to make the big bucks per se, but they still are a business that needs to run and pay employees, facilities, and other services provided. Abrazo Health offers a broad range of medical services, internal medicine, general surgery, cardiology, orthopedics, mother and infant care, diagnostic imaging, and emergency service. Abrazo Health Hospital has five acute who are all accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC) who have accredited hospit al for more than 50 years. Arrowhead Hospital, Maryvale Hospital, Phoenix Baptist Hospital and West Valley Hospital are recognized as a certified Primary Stroke Center and are a part of the Abrazo Health Hospital. All three of these organizations are not for profit. Each facility has its own purpose and mission statement. Not all healthcare facilities are the same as they provide care in their own way established from their own standards and levels of care. Each has a common goal in providing the highest level of care in any treatment they provide. Each has the tough task of always having to update their quality and risk management goals to meet the demands of the public and reimbursement agencies along with maintaining their accreditations. Quality and risk management have to be proactive and stopping incidents before they start. Incidents cost organizations financially and in the long run take away from the level of care that they are trying to provide. References Abrazo Health. (2013). Nike Share Price On Monthly Basis Marketing Essay
Nike Share Price On Monthly Basis Marketing Essay INTRODUCTION The Financial market consists of money market and capital market. Money market basically deals with the short -term debt securities, which is safe and have high liquid able investment, while capital market deals with the long-term debt securities and they are traded. For being an efficient market, the information is included quickly into the price so that the price reflects information. The current market price reflects all existing information. Efficient Market Hypothesis (EMH) is defined as the information which is quickly and efficiently included into asset prices at any point in time, so that old information cannot be used to predict future price movements. There are three level of information available as to distinguish the EMH. Strong EMH: Its a private (insider) information that is incorporated quickly into the market price and cannot be used to reap unusual trading profit. In this, the companys management is unable to make gains from the information. Semi-strong EMH: In this the information is publicly available and is reflected in the securities current market price. The public information includes past prices, companys financial statement, announcement, economic factor etc. Weak EMH: It reflects past price and volumes information from the current assets price. It is a weak form because the price is easily accessible information and no one would be able to outperform the market using this information. NYSE COMPANY BACKGROUND The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) also known as Big Board. It is the largest and oldest stock exchange in US. It been originated back in 1792, when a group of brokers rendezvous under a tree in Manhattan and signed an agreement to do a securities trade. The NYSE employs individuals who are called specialists who deal with the selling and buying of stocks. Nike Inc., develops and designs footwear, sportswear, apparels and equipment. They make the availability of goods in Nike stores, franchisee stores and online through the website www.nikestore.com . The company mainly operates in the Europe, Americas, Africa, Asia Pacific and the Middle East. It is headquartered in Beaverton, Oregon and employs about 38,000 people. They organize, supports and sponsors main sports around the world as they think sports is the main key for being healthy and they also sponsors high profile athletes so that the people can follow their icons. Nike has a trademark logo Just Do It. ANALYSIS The purpose of a stock price analysis is to study the behavior of stock prices and thereby determine whether buying, selling or holding on to a stock would be beneficial for the investor. A stock price is basically the market price that is ascribed to it by public appreciation of the stock. Hence, analyzing stock prices gives one an idea about the price a stock would demand within a future timescale. While thoroughly analyzing the share price of two years, the company faced lots of ups and down in the share price due to several reasons. On Dec 13, 2010, Nike Inc. shares were up by 3 percent at $90.35 due to solid sneakers sale in United States, growing demand for apparels and accelerating sales in china. Analyst Michael Binetti state that China represents about 10 percent of Nikes total revenues today, and we believe Nike is focusing resources to double its China revenues over the next five years. There was a decrease in shares price of Nike by 5 percent on Dec 21, 2010 as the company was not able to satisfy the rising expectations for future orders. The delay was because across the globe there was high demand of Nike footwear and clothing and the company was not able to deliver the item on time. The downward trend of the share price was seen for the next few days because of the reason above. A high magnitude earthquake was felt in Japan on April 07, 2011 causing a downfall in the share on Nike by 3 percent. The effect was seen on the NYSE Exchange. The New York Times reported that the effect of the earthquake was felt over the market and the downfall was seen overall. Nike spokesperson stated that they will re-establish the infrastructure as soon as possible as to fulfill the people demand. The company again faced a downfall of 7 percent on March 18, 2011 as the company planned to raise the prices of the shoes and sports clothing so that they can cope up with the rising cost of cotton, oil and transportation that are hampering its profitability. The news did not have a good impact on the investors and a price overreaction was seen due to the news. Nike shares gained 4.3 percent to $84.14 on June 27, 2011 in after-hours trading when the company announced that its quarterly net income rises by 14 percent due to footwear sales increased by 20 percent, apparel revenue rose by 28 percent as they were driven by earlier shipment, strong category presentations and improved product lines of summer season products The very next day the shares price was up by 10.1 percent when Chief Executive Mark Parker told to its investors that the apparel maker and sports gears, which reported stronger fiscal growth for fourth quarter profits, is ahead of schedule in meeting its targets. The news was announced through a conference call. An overreaction was seen to this price. Shares were up by more than 5 percent on Sep 22, 2011 as sales rose by 35 percent in emerging markets and 15 percent in Greater China. Together both these regions supply about 23 percent of Nikes business. The future demand of the brand measures to be 16 percent to total $8.5 billion. There was high demand for footwear and clothing line in North America which led in rose in revenue by 15 percent to $5.8 billion which led in the rise in the share price of the company by 3 percent on March 22, 2012. On April 10, 2012 Nike did an out-of-court settlement with Reebok as Reebok used Footballer Tebows name in their apparels without having approved from Nike as Nike is authorized and licensed to use Tebows name on football related product. This news did not go good with investors as there was a downfall of share by 4 percent. The company announced to sell its two brands Cole Haan and Umbro on May 31, 2012. The news did not go good with the investors as the downfall in the share price by 2 percent on the very next day. During Olympics 2012, Egypt Olympic team claimed that they got fake Nike kit from the company. They stated that The workout bag had a big Nike logo in the front and the zipper had an Adidas branding on them. This news showed effect on the share price of the company which made a fall of 4 percent on the market on July 26, 2012. The trend was seen for few more days because of the news. (add beta coffiecient) CONCLUSION As we can look, the Efficient Market Hypothesis provides us to what type of information is available in the market and how much the investors can earn from it. Whenever new information is available in the market, the reaction can be seen on the share price. If I look into the news, I can see that the company provides semi-strong news to its investors. During the Olympics 2012, Egypt alleged that they got a fake Nike kit from the company and due to that a shares fall in the market can be seen. If we look into the news, it is semi-strong news and we can see the effect on the market. In few news we can see the overreaction and under reaction, as it helps us to understand what happens when a particular news come to the market and effect can be seen in the next few days of the market. EMH was a theory which was invented long back to know the market but now days there are software which is available in the market which can fetch us high accuracy results of the market. Problems With Looking ?un Neat? On The Playing Field :: essays research papers
Problems with looking ââ¬Å"un neatâ⬠on the playing field à à à à à As a sophomore on the Cocoa Highââ¬â¢s Varsity girl soccer team, I can truly say that our appearance on the field looks revolting as a whole. It simply ruins our reputation, even before we compete. Everyone, even our own school assumed that we have little or no chance winning the game. We get no support at all. That really upset my team and me. Joking around about out school record can go but too far. Yes itââ¬â¢s true that we donââ¬â¢t have a strong girl soccer record. But we are willing to change that. And we are showing a lot of progress as years goes by. But you got to remember this group of girls works their butts off to even show up for game. You have to give us a lot of credit just for attempting. We sacrifice our time and strength to play these games. We work awfully hard at every single game. Just because we donââ¬â¢t go home winning the game, doesnââ¬â¢t mean we are losers. It just means, we have a lot of work to progress our soccer abilit y. To start with, without us group of girls, Cocoa High wouldnââ¬â¢t even have a girl soccer program. And if the school doesnââ¬â¢t have it, it also means the boy soccer team wouldnââ¬â¢t exist either. à à à à à When I sit on the stands watching the Junior Varsity play against other schoolââ¬â¢s Junior Varsity team, the first thing I notice, is how we present ourselves. At the most, other schoolââ¬â¢s has greater a mount of players, at least twice as more then us. We barely made it to where we can start the game. With no substitution, its just mean, ââ¬Å"donââ¬â¢t get hurtâ⬠during the game. And when youââ¬â¢re playing aggressively, like youââ¬â¢re suppose to, you will have greater chance of getting injured. Which cause the Cocoa Tiger to become weaker then it already is. I know itââ¬â¢s not fair that we have to suffer, which most girls drop out of the team. And I know a lot of other girls would like it too, but they donââ¬â¢t want other schoolââ¬â¢s to start talking some more about us. Also, lots of us like the sport, and want to continue competing. Goethe & Vonnegut :: essays research papers
Powerful Emotion (3) à à à à à Anyone who reads The Sorrows of Young Werther by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe instantly feels the emotional intensity portrayed by Werther, the protagonist. His speculations about life are indeed unique, especially in modern times when life often goes by quickly without notice. Perhaps that is one of the reasons why his immense emotion strikes a chord with readers as coming from someone crazy or dangerous. Wertherââ¬â¢s mental state seems incredibly alive at some times while seemingly lifeless at others. This lifeless state of mind is similar to another sorrowful character in Kurt Vonnegutââ¬â¢s Slaughterhouse Five. In his story of Billy Pilgrim, a similar wonder engulfs the reader, causing us to question the cause of both his mindset and of our own. These books bring a couple of interesting questions to mindâ⬠¦ How much emotion is too much? How little is too little? These characters struggle with powerful emotion in many ways, and are therefore judged as mad. The two protagonists engage in totally different journeys, but each of them leads the reader to discover the limits of human emotion. These limits are reached by Werther and Billy, therefore leading to both charactersââ¬â¢ demise. à à à à à In simple terms, I think that Billy Pilgrim in Slaughterhouse Five demonstrates the extremity of too little emotion, in contrast with Werther in The Sorrows of Young Werther demonstrating the extremity of too much emotion. Both of these characters live their lives in suffering because of this lack/surfeit of emotion. Iââ¬â¢d like to start my analysis off with the odd style of Kurt Vonnegut and how he portrays his main character. à à à à à Billy Pilgrim has mental problems. Too many to name, in fact. He has difficulty in almost every aspect of life because of these mental problems. Vonnegut has concocted an anti-war novel that blames Billyââ¬â¢s health (or lack thereof) on the trauma of being in a war, but poor Billy has many problems even before the war. He seems to be extremely emotionally detached from all aspects of life. Yes, he gets married and has children, but it seems to be portrayed as somewhat sarcastic and unimportant. This is the danger of being unemotional in life. à à à à à One of the strongest points proving Billyââ¬â¢s lack of emotion is when he is at war and essentially tries to set himself up for his enemy to shoot him (Vonnegut 29). The incident seems very ironic considering Vonnegutââ¬â¢s anti-war opinions, because he seems to want Billy to honor the fairness of war.

Mad Shadows and the Scarlet Letter
In the novel Mad Shadows by Marie-Claire Blais and The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, isolation was used as a major theme to sculpt and reveal the characters true identity. The behaviour of each central character towards isolation crafted their fates. The Scarlet Letter portrays the psychological effects of alienation on the characters. Mad shadows illustrates an unprincipled world where beauty is skin only deep and love is measured by material possessions. The main character in The Scarlet Letter, Hester Prynne, committed adultery with the Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale. Hester was outcast by the puritan community that deemed her a presence of evil. Hester refused to reveal the other adulterer. In doing so, Arthur Dimmesdales quietly suffered until he finally completed penance. Roger Chillingsworth whom Hester was lawfully wed to, swore to reveal her lover thus poisoning his soul with revenge. Hester wore a scarlet letter A_ _as punishment, estranging her from her community. This was to remind her and everyone of her sinful deed. She had no communication with the rest of the world either than her trips to receive and deliver embroidery orders. Hester lived in a cottage remote from the sphere of society. The dark forest provided Hester with private surroundings in which she may search for truth and escape the glare of her community, although dejected. The consequence of her pure and innate impulse had to be taken on with humiliation in exile. Arthur Dimmesdale imposed desolation upon himself. Dimmesdale was incapable and reluctant to openly make public his sin. He therefore continued to be troubled by his own shame and as a result felt inner isolation from the community. His secret also forbade him from being with Hester and his daughter, separating him from his family. Dimmesdale saw himself as an immoral person. He reprimanded himself with neglect and hunger. When Dimmesdale finally frees himself from guilt and shame by confessing to the public, he yields to illness and dies. Roger Chillingworth undergoes a masked and vague form of estrangement and seclusion. He is physically divorced from Hester and feared by the townspeople, who believed that he was evil. Chillingworth, obsessed with seeking Hesterââ¬â¢s secret lover, became mentally detached from himself. He gradually loses his self to the devil. Impiety causes Chillingworth to ultimately withdraw from his prior self. He lived secluded in a world which he believed only holds bitterness and anger. The central characters in The Scarlet Letter manipulated and contributed to the theme of isolation through their personalities. They were secluded from one another, themselves and their community. Hester, Dimmesdale, and Chillingworth endured differtent types of alienation and isolation and to various degrees. Hester is segregated from society. Dimmesdale felt alone due to the secrecy of his sin. Chillingworth surrendered himself to evil and gradually withers away. Mad Shadows focuses on a family that live in a corrupt perception of true beauty and love. Louise, who only valued material possessions and outer beauty, disregarded her unsightly daughter while pampering her handsome son. Her shallowness planted a jealous seed in Isabelle-Marie preventing her from experiencing happiness. Patrice on the other hand lived in superficiality and never had a deeper meaning to life or himself. These characters are isolated from nature and each other consequently preventing true happiness. Isabelle-Marie was the unsightly daughter of Louise. Her appearance deemed her unworthy of her motherââ¬â¢s love and affection. Isabelle-Marie was assigned to work in the farms preoccupying her time and preventing her from socializing. She was separated from the family because of the way she looked. Patrice couldnââ¬â¢t sympathize with his sister due to his idiocy. Her motherââ¬â¢s mistreatment spawned hatred for herself. Isabelle-Marie was wrapped in jealousy preventing her from loving her brother. Insecurities inspired her to lie to her husband ultimately losing him in the end. She had a daughter, like her she was ugly and her lack of love and acceptance for herself prevented her for genuinely loving her child. After she took revenge on her unloving mother Isabelle-Marie was still unfulfilled, everything was gone except for her, soon after she took her life. Patrice was treated like a baby by his mother. His beauty was her possession and was the only thing she loved of him. Patrice never knew anybody but Louise. He felt no real love from his family and was never understood. His mother spoke for him, acted on his behalf, and thought for him. Patrice was detached from his true self for he did not need to ponder anything outside of his mother and his beauty. When Patriceââ¬â¢s face was disfigured he lost his motherââ¬â¢s love and was left in an asylum. Unable to cope with his loneliness he eventually escaped the asylum to go back to his mother, only to find the remains of his life burned. His upbringing kept his soul and purpose empty. Ultimately Patrice lived in a hollow shell. Louise was an empty and excessive doll. Her concerns were only of her trim body and Patriceââ¬â¢s beauty, which she saw as her own beauty. External beauty made her self-absorbed not allowing her to naturally love Isabelle-Marie. Her marriage to Lanz served as a union of two faded and shallow lovers. Lanz only saw Louise for her beauty and riches. Her demanding husband forced Louise to give less of herself to her son, driving a wedge between them. Louiseââ¬â¢s incapability to naturally lover her children kept herself detached from them. In the end she died alone amongst her possessions. The family lived in an immoral world. Isabelle-Marie destroyed her life and family due to her self-loathing. She was not able to completely lover her daughter for she was her mirror. Patrice lived in a world without living. When everything he knew was in ruins, he found his soul and peace in the lake. Louise only loving material possession condemned her children lives. The main characters segregation from each other didnââ¬â¢t let them escape the feeling of loneliness in their present lives. Marie-Claire Blais and Nathaniel Hawthorne depicted the characters inner feelings of suffering and hurt through relentless loneliness and seclusion. Both authors used two different forms of estrangement, isolation and alienation. The central characters in both novels experience different settings of isolation, which they developed with their personalities. The Scarlet Letter emphasized the suffering of the characters in psychological aspect. Mad Shadows_ _focused on the shallowness of the heart. The main characters in both novels undergo a variety of changes which eventually sealed their fates. *Mad Shadows and The* Scarlet Letter Theme of isolation Agnes Palaganas April 8, 2010 ENG18Y1- James Meade Reference: Blais,Marie-Claire.
